alison byrd

I am Alison Byrd, the owner/founder of BlueByrd Wellness.  I grew up in Kent in England (“Where the blue birds fly over the white cliffs of Dover”).

I have always had a great interest in science, shunning fiction for encyclopedias as a child.  I have also always felt the need to help people and sooth their discomfort.  In choosing a career path, I combined the two interests and studied hard to become a hospital pharmacist.  I worked for 13 years as a clinical pharmacist in England, specializing in oncology and hematology.

I gave up my career when I agreed to marry an American and move to the United States.  While studying for my pharmaceutical equivalency exam, I discovered I was pregnant and decided to postpone my return to the medical field.

After I gave birth to my son, I realized that I did not want to continue my work in the pharmaceutical field and began teaching myself natural medicine.  I was fascinated with understanding how natural medicine uses our bodies’ natural ability to heal in lieu of using chemicals and pharmaceuticals to treat symptoms

At the age of 4 my son was diagnosed with high-functioning autism.  I did some heavy metal testing for him and found that he had very high levels of lead, which he got from me during my pregnancy.  When a woman is pregnant, lead can be released from her bones and transfer to the fetus.  This lead transfer can cause impairment in the intellectual development of the baby and contribute to behavioral problems in early childhood.

After a lot of research to find a solution with a focus on functional medicine and detoxification work, I found the answers I needed to help my son.

I became fascinated by functional medicine and its focus in fighting the root causes of chronic health conditions vs. the focus on alleviating symptoms.

I am now focused on growing my own practice to allow me the time and flexibility to work with clients more directly using the protocols that align my focus areas.
